About Us

Our team has nearly 100 years of experience in the tropical hardwood industry. About 5 years ago, we were discussing with a customer and a common statement came up "Ipe on Pine". The reference to the high end decking boards made of Ipe being installed a top a structure of treated Southern Yellow Pine. Following an in-depth conversation we determined that the cost premium of decking choices largely overcame the premium of Tropical Hardwood Substructures.

We identified three major barriers that inhibited the use of Tropical Hardwoods in substructures.

  • Suspect Sustainability
  • Lack of Availability
  • Inconsistent Quality

We had fortunately already an established network of sustainable forest concessions to source forest products from. We started working on the two problems one by one.

Constant Inventory

The solution to a lack of consistent availability was to quite obviously to increase the supply of material by offering an inventory available for immediate delivery within the U.S. While this may be simple the subparts involved with this distribution involved a few lessons and development.

  • Logistics: We began in Connecticut in 2014, moving to New Jersey in 2018, and finally relocating to Pennsylvania in 2022. We initially planned to service the heavy tropical demands in the New England and Lower Northeast. However, Logistics proved easier Northbound than Southbound so we slowly moved down the country. Our current location can easily accommodate up to 7 container loads in a day, we have a rail siding, and trucks available to dispatch from Key West to Maine.
  • Inventory Health: As can be imagined bringing in an inventory offers a temporary solution to supply issues. The longest part of our development came from identifying usage and building a healthy flow of product. This allows us to turn the inventory without accumulating excessive costs or having any product waste.

Consistent Quality

The ongoing challenge we work against is sub grade material being offered within our market. Our approach to counteract this is two prong:

  • Quality Assurance: We do this by making sure our inventory consists of timber that exceeds the grading requirements per specification. Our process involves grading at multiple stages we inspect our material at saw milling, prior to loading at the mill, on arrival to our facility, and before loading for the project. By being a quality first company we dedicate ourselves to supplying only the best material to our projects.
  • Educate others on Grade: We also actively engage township engineers and contractors to discuss quality concerns that can come from improper saw milling. We regularly attend ASCE and COPRI meetings to offer our guidance where helpful. We engage with the USACOE and the Army Core on projects and proposals.
